Guidelines for Documenting Fire Safety Designs IPENZ Practice Note 22
Guidelines for Documenting Fire Safety Designs are published as IPENZ Practice Note 22. The Guidelines provide guidance about how fire design should be communicated and documented, including providing evidence of design methodology.
This guidance:
It is relevant for designs that are prepared either in compliance with the acceptable solutions or by specific design. Good quality design documentation makes building consent processes easier for the applicant, their designers and Building Consent Authorities (BCAs). The Department of Building & Housing recommends that fire designers, BCAs and other interested parties become familiar with the guidance in this Practice Note.
IPENZ Fire Engineering Advisory Taskforce Report 'Hot Topics', August 2007
The Hot Topics report has been prepared by an expert taskforce of practising fire engineers, the New Zealand Fire Service, and local and central government regulators brought together by the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). The Fire Engineering Advisory Task force was concerned that there was evidence of a lack of clarity about what fire engineers do and the competencies expected of them. It supports the active implementation of international best practice in New Zealand through training and support for regulators. The Taskforce also wants to give more clarity about the fire design process, to give greater confidence that sound designs will be well implemented. The Task force also obtained feedback from practitioners and took it into consideration in this final report.
Hot Topics makes 11 recommendations and calls for support and action from fire engineers, IPENZ, the Department of Building and Housing, the New Zealand Fire Service, building consent authorities and the tertiary education sector.
