The International 'Fire Safe Use of Wood Global Design Guide' has now been published (Sept 2022). This Design Guide is co-edited by Professor Andy Buchanan and Birgit Östman. Contributions to various chapters have been provided by SFPE NZ Chapter members including Dr. Colleen Wade and Tony Abu. The SFPE NZ Chapter made a contribution to the publication of this design guide. As a result of the contributions from SFPE NZ and a range of other benefactors this Guide can be downloaded for free as a PDF file, from this location: https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/oa-edit/10.1201/9781003190318/fire-safe-use-wood-buildings-andrew-buchanan-birgit-%C3%B6stman?context=ubx&refId=2795bfa3-d9ad-4fed-9d77-6a8971c6fb92 Also, if you are not already a keen follower of the Fire Science Show podcast series, you might also be interested to listen to this podcast by Andy Buchanan, in which he describes the Design Guide book and also gives some personal opinions on the topic of fire performance of mass timber buildings. SFPE NZ Construction Monitoring Guide published

Posted Aug 2, 2021

The SFPE NZ Chapter is pleased to announce the publication of our "Construction Monitoring Guide - A guide to monitoring construction of building design features relating to fire engineering". Click on Resources menu at the top of this page <https://www.sfpe.org.nz/resources> then click on the download link to download the Guide. This guide is a culmination of input, consultation, and work from a number of SFPE members, led by Greg North. Considered review and feedback was gratefully received from several industry organisations, Engineering New Zealand and Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects. We consider it an invaluable document in providing fire engineers and designers, architects, other building design disciplines, Building Consent Authorities, and contractors with information and guidance on best practice, roles, and expectations during the construction monitoring phase of a project. The Chapter expresses sincere thanks to Greg North for his ongoing commitment to this project and the hard work he has put in (in his own time for the most part) to making it happen. Although Version 1 of document is now published we consider the document reasonably 'live' in nature. The Guide can be adapted to changes that occur in industry practice or commentary in future revisions, as needed. Any comments or suggestions for change should be forwarded directly to the Chapter Secretary.
